Mobile cheque deposit supported by UK Government

If mobile deposit is widely in use in the USA and in Canada, Europe seems to be the stone age of cheque (except Spain and Denmark). But UK Government wants to move forward, and according to Finextra "Under the proposals, UK banks will be able process cheque images for the first time, suspending the current requirement for banks to physically see the paper version before agreeing to honour the payment."
Barclays will be the pilot.

When UK is looking to remote deposit, American start-ups are working on e-check, which is another way to make check a digital means of payment : CheckAlt, DoubleBeam. DoubleBeam just acquired part of GoPago, and proposes to have a checkbook in your mobile wallet to pay for example bills. You just have to take a picture of a BLANK check, which is quite new.
